Are your hands tight with high energy bills? Bet on pure solar energy. Classic photovoltaic system with solar panels gives you simple solution of reaching the maximum energetic self-sufficiency, zero emissions and great financial savings.

Average photovoltaic system on a residential house saves in 30 years as much CO2 as 3000 newly embedded trees. Energy needed for its construction will return in a year. And the service life of the whole system with high quality components is up to 40 years.

The conversion of solar energy into electric energy is happening in photovoltaic panels, which produce direct current. Direct current is then converted into alternating and is sent to a wall outlet or a switchboard of the facility.

Accumulation of energy into water is the first and easiest step for a better utilization of electric energy surpluses from photovoltaic power plant. This system substantially speeds up the return especially when it comes to a photovoltaics in residential houses without a heat pump.

Accumulation tank is connected to both the domestic hot water distribution and heating. Thanks to a device called “watt router” there is a re-routing of “redundant” energy starting with a few tens of watts e.g. to a spiral of the accumulation tank.

In a residential house there is a substantial increase of utilization of the electric energy which would otherwise go to the distribution network for “a few pennies”. In addition, the investor saves on another medium (e. g. gas) which is necessary for heating or water heating.

Practice example

Existing house is inhabited by a family with a standard consumption of domestic hot water. The electricity and gas costs are approximately 40 000 CZK.

Solution proposal:

The ideal variant is a photovoltaic power plant with a power of 4kW. Heating and hot water system supplemented with an accumulation tank with a volume of 300 litres, two exchangers, three-phase heating spiral and a watt router for controlling the surpluses. Accumulation tank will serve as a container for hot water. First exchanger will be connected to a heating circuit. Second can be connected to a gas boiler and used as a back-up for heating water during bad weather. The investment is worth 220 000 CZK.

Year-savings:

Year savings for gas and water are about 12 000 CZK. The initial grants are worth 55 000 CZK (program New Green for Savings)

The future of electric energy consumption

The production of electricity from sun and its consumption in a building are rarely balanced. The highest energy consumption is usually in the morning and in the evening, whereas the energy generated from sun is at its maximum during noon. Without accumulation, the energy surplus is sent to the distribution network for a low purchase price and energy is bought for a higher price when there is a sun deficit. The amount of own usable energy can be increased by installing accumulators. Those store the energy produced during the day so it can be used after sunset. Batteries also cover the consumption peaks. In a situation when the energy consumption is higher than the energy the photovoltaics is able to produce, the energy is primarily derived from the stored energy. During most time of the year the energy consumed from public network is decreased to minimum.

One of the biggest advantages of batteries is short charging time, deep discharge rate and no oxygen or hydrogen vapours. The switching between sources is completely smooth. The whole process is fully automized without need of any intervention.

Practice example

Existing residential house with high electric energy consumption (daily operation of a workshop, swimming pool or other craft). The energy costs are approximately 50 000 CZK a year. The energy consumption is round-the-clock.

Solution proposal:

The perfect solution here is a photovoltaic power plant with a power of 6 kW and a battery system on lithium basis with capacity of 9 kW. The power plant will yearly produce energy worth about 25 000 CZK. Thanks to the batteries is most of the energy used in the house. The investment is worth approximately 500 000 CZK. The service life of the system including the batteries is more than 20 years.

Year savings:

The year savings on electricity are approximately 22 000 CZK. The initial grants are worth 150 000 CZK (Program New Green for Savings)

Get even more energetic savings with a favourable combination of a heat pump and a photovoltaics. It is an interesting investment into own object with very low expenditures on energy production.

Heat pump and photovoltaics go perfectly together. Although we need to say that it won’t guarantee 100% savings from consumed energy – a heat pump has highest energy consumption during winter, when the production of photovoltaic system is low. Proper project will though reach energy self-sufficiency during most time of the year.

Thanks to State Environment fund’s programs you can get a grant for a complete realization worth up to 80 % of tax-deductible expenses.

Practice example

New building of a residential house inhabited by 4-6 permanent residents. Heat loss is 12 kW. Especially the consumption of hot water is high.

Solution proposal:

The best variant is a heat pump with power of 10 kW supplemented with a photovoltaic power plant with power of 3 kWp with control of electric energy surplus. Large tank for domestic hot water (400 l), accumulation of hot water (500 l). The investment is worth 650 000 CZK, initial grants are worth 150 000 CZK.

Year savings:

Complete electric energy consumption expenditures are thanks to photovoltaics and a heating using the heat pump only 12 000 CZK a year. Which saves compared to normal variant (heating using gas and standard electricity tariff) almost 33 000 CZK.
